Harry Potter Day: Science, Magic and Medicine (UAlberta)

Explore the science of Harry Potter's world! Families mark your calendar - join us at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry at the University of Alberta. Join us for an exceptional day of science-based learning and fun in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry!
FREE event with advance registration (donations are welcomed).
When: January 28th, 2012 from 11 am to 4 pm.
Where: Katz Group - Rexall Centre for Pharmacy and Health Research (Atrium, enter via the 114th Street entrance, just south of the 87th Avenue).
This event is open to all members of the community. Come as you are, or bring your own wand and Harry Potter-themed costume! Tickets are required. Tickets are not available at the door.
We have organized a series of fun-filled Harry Potter-themed science experiments and other hands-on activities for children aged 7-12 years old. Activities include the study of potions, care of magical creatures, muggle studies, owlery, defense against the dark arts, and so much more! Adults are invited to take in the National Library of Medicine’s “Harry Potter’s World: Renaissance Science, Magic and Medicine” six-panel exhibit that explores the world of the historical roots of “Harry Potter,” a modern literary sensation. Science teachers and educators will take away ideas for Harry Potter-inspired activities they can use in their lesson plans. NB: All children must be accompanied by an adult.
In lieu of an admission fee, we will graciously accept donations, which will contribute to enhancing our Harry Potter-themed educational programming on January 28th. You can make your donation online using our Eventbrite website. Charitable receipts will be issued for donations of $20 or more.
Parking is available at the Education Car Park is located just north of the intersection of 87th Avenue and 114th Street.
Closest LRT Station: "Health Sciences/ Jubilee" at 83rd Avenue and 114th Street.
This event has been organized by Let’s Talk Science, and the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry’s Arts & Humanities in Health & Medicine Program, History of Medicine Program, and the J. Alan Gilbert Chair for Medical Education Research, and the John W. Scott Health Sciences Library.
